Hamdard University Department of Biomedical
Engineering (HU BME) faculty members visited Pakistan Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (PCSIR) Laboratories Complex, Karachi on Friday 13 December
2019. The visit was organized by the Industrial Relations Department of Faculty
of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Hamdard University. The faculty members
included Dr. Tariq Javid, Associate Professor & Chairman, Engr. Muhammad
Faris, Assistant Professor, Engr. Tayyab Ahmed Ansari, Assistant Professor, and
Engr. Ramsha Fatima, Lecturer. Dr. Uzma Rashid, Senior Scientific Officer and Chairperson
Protocol welcomed the faculty members along with Dr. Omer Mukhtar Tarar,
Technical Member, Certification Incentive Programme (CIP) for SMEs and Dr. Samee
Haider, Senior Scientific Officer from Food Technology and Nutrition Section. After
a short introduction from both sides, a brief discussion session was held in
Dr. Omer’s office. The main points included: a brief on PCSIR Laboratories
Complex setup across Pakistan and various services offered to scientific and industrial
organizations. The PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi is a multidisciplinary
research complex having expertise in the disciplines of Marine and Food
Sciences, Environment, Bio-Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, Applied Chemistry and
Physics, Instrumentation, Material Science and Computers. Besides carrying out Research and Development
work in particular disciplines, it also provides analytical and technical
services as well as academic supervisory services. In the present scenario of
ISO and WTO, PCSIR Laboratories Complex Karachi is contributing by providing
quality testing services accredited under ISO / IEC-17025, to the Pakistani
manufacturers, exporters and importers. Later, HU BME faculty visited many
state-of-the-art laboratories at the PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi to
witness excellent services in the form of various expensive testes underway on
submitted samples from industry. This followed by a detailed discussion session
on Hamdard University faculty and student visits, internships, and curriculum
for Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology. The PCSIR officers
assured their support, assistance and guidance in all related aspects. Surprisingly,
during the discussion session; a sample from Hamdard Laboratories was received
by Food Technology and Nutrition Section for analysis.
