Visit of AKU CIME 2019

Industrial Visit of Biomedical Engineering Students
Centre of Innovation in Medical Education, Aga Khan University Hospital

Hamdard University Department of Biomedical Engineering (HU BME) students of batches 2017 and 2018 visited Centre of Innovation for Medical Education, Aga Khan University Hospital (AKU CIME) on Thursday 05 December 2019. The industrial visit was organized by the Industrial Relations Department (IRD), Faculty of Engineering Sciences & Technology, Hamdard University, Karachi, Main Campus. The students were accompanied by Engr. Dr. Tariq Javid, Associate Professor & Chairman, HU BME, Engr. Osama Malik, Lecturer, HU BME, and Mr. Salman Shah, Assistant Professor, Department of Computing. Dr. Perwez Hashmi, Advisor Administration, AKU CIME welcomed the academia group. Dr. Hashmi presented an overview, purpose of AKU CIME, simulation and modeling facilities, problem-based learning environment, and other features of a unique setup of its own in Pakistan. The session included interaction in the form of questions and answers. He appreciated the knowledge demonstrated by HU BME students and preparation for the industry visit. Furthermore, he guided students to gain the knowledge of best institutions around the globe and their recent work. He also emphasized the need to develop industry linkages and consistent efforts for adoption of new learning techniques. He offered AKU CIME services for promotion of health education in professions related to medical services. The tour of facilities were well coordinated and supported by Mr. Ghulam Nabi, Marketing and Communications Analyst, Mr. Saleem S. Pirani, Technical Specialist, and Mr. Darab Nisar Ahmed, Technical Analyst. HU BME student were very excited and happy with the industrial visit as they are now ready for their final year projects, many of which are linked directly to the advanced instrumentations well explained by AKU CIME experts. Mr. Ghulam Nabi told contribution of AKU CIME in promotion of healthcare education, learning, teaching, and research. He also presented a brief on future aspects of the marvelous setup. The tour was ended with a light lunch at the AKU CIME cafeteria. The academia group then started their journey back to the Hamdard University.
