Pfizer Global Supply Plant Karachi Visit

Industrial visit was arranged for students of Department of Biomedical Engineering for batches 2016 and 2017 to Pfizer Global Supply plant of Pfizer Pakistan Ltd., on 31 October 2019, by Industrial Relations Department, Faculty of Engineering Sciences & Technology, Hamdard University, Karachi, Main Campus. The students were accompanied by Engr. Dr. Tariq Javid, Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Engr. Osama Malik, Lecturer, Department of Biomedical Engineering. Mr. Mohiuddin, Mr. Mujahid, and Mr. Fareed Alam of Pfizer Global Supply facilitated different sections of plant visit. The supply, packaging, and quality assurance sections were visited. The visit began with the manufacturing section where students were briefed about the manufacturing processes adopted by the organization. They were led to different divisions of the said section such as Bottle Filling, Over-Printing, Packaging, and were briefed about the activities performed in routine. The students were then guided to the Quality Assurance department where the students were briefed about the procedure in detail. There were two major labs: the “Wet Chem Lab” where sample preparation process of raw material and finished product for testing is carried out. Students were also briefed about various procedures carried out for preparation of samples. In the “Instrumentation Lab”, the actual testing on the sample is performed. The most commonly used instruments for testing in the instrumentation lab included Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UHPLC, FTIR Spectrophotometer and Gas Chromatography. A brief overview was also given about the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) standard and Pfizer standards followed for sample testing.
