Biomedical Engineering Faculty Visit of Radiation Oncology Aga Khan University Hospital

Hamdard University, Faculty of Engineering Sciences & Technology, Department of Biomedical Engineering faculty members visited the Aga Khan University Hospital, Department of Radiation Oncology. BME team composed of Engr. Prof. Dr. Tariq Javid, Chairperson, Engr. Dr. Muhammad Faris, Assistant Professor, and Engr. Dr. Jawwad Sami Ur Rahman, Assistant Professor. HU team is welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Abbasi, HoD Radiation Oncology team at Ibn e Zuhr building, AKU. A detailed discussion was held at the initial meeting, in Prof. Abbasi office, on initializing the clinical engineering education in collaboration and be part of the multi disciplinary team board in which NED UET is already a member. Thanks to Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Abbasi, Professor & HoD Oncology AKU for explaining the importance of doctor and engineer collaboration in clinical practice and the road map ahead. In this context, the HU team prepare a formal proposal in collaboration with AKU team; and submit for formal approval to competent authority. An MoU to enable BME (Department of Biomedical Engineering) and DAS (Department of Applied Sciences) students to visit both HEIs (Higher Education Institutes) for better outcome for both patients (customer perspective) as well as students (academic learning). I am thankful to the AKU team for their precious time, the presenter, healthcare facility tour, discussion, and hospitality.

PhD Faculty Meetup 6 Department of Biomedical Engineering

The meeting was started with recitation of Holy Quran by Dr. Najmuddin, Assistant Professor Biotechnology followed by the welcome by Prof. Dr. Tariq Javid, Chairperson, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science & Technology, Hamdard University. The agenda points are: (1) Review of last academic year: July 2022 - June 2023 and (2) Goals of coming academic year: July 2023 - June 2024. After a brief on agenda point (1) by the Chair, the PhD faculty members shared their experience. There was a detailed discussion on the agenda point (2). Prof. Dr. Saghir Ahmed Sheikh emphasis on writing research projects for funds. Dr. Muhammad Auorangzeb, Dr. Najamuddin, and Dr. Samiyah Tasleem shared the QEC training held on 27th June 2023 at Bait al-Hikmah Boardroom organized by HEC QEC. The meeting was ended with a vote of thanks by the Chair to the participants. 

Hamdard University at 2nd Sindh Research & Technology Showcase 2023

Thursday & Friday 18-19 May 2023

Hamdard University exhibited 16 food products developed by students and faculty of Food Science & Technology, Department of Biomedical Engineering, at 2nd Sindh Research & Technology Showcase 2023 held at Karachi Expo on 18-19 May 2023. Prof. Dr. Saghir Ahmed Sheikh, students, and selected faculty members attended the two days session in which the food products made at HU were liked and appreciated by the participants including Governor Sb, Minister Sb, and Chairperson Sindh HEC, to name a few. HU provided a generous fund (thanks to Dean FEST for his efforts and motivation) of Rs. two lac in order to produce the food products in house in sufficient amount along with display material and to support activities at the event. The team is highly obliged the support from higher management and their vision to support academic, curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities. 

Hamdard University Biomedical Seminar Industry-Academia Linkages 2023

Hamdard University Faculty of Engineering Sciences & Technology organized Biomedical Seminar Industry-Academia Linkages 2023. The event was held at FEST auditorium and attended by the faculty and students of FEST, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and Faculty of Eastern Medicine. The Faculty Development Team and FEST ORIC welcomed the invited speakers: Prof. Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Abasi, Professor of Radiation Oncology, Aga Khan University & Secretary General Rad/Onc Society of Pakistan; and Dr. Sheikh Ebad, Oncologist, AKU. The initial meeting was held at FEST conference room. The event started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Dr. Jawwad Sami Ur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering. After National Anthem, the invited speakers shared their industry experience, state-of-the-art, and future aspects of the profession. At the end, Prof. Dr. Tariq Javid presented vote of thanks to the organizers and participants of the event. Prof. Dr. Ahsana Dar, Dean, Faculty of Eastern Medicine, Prof. Dr. Raza Ur Rahman, Dean Faculty of Health & Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Saghir Ahmed Sheikh, Food Science & Technology were among the faculty members presented in the event.
