Semiconductor Diode Series Circuit Analysis in Analog Device's LTspice XVII SPICE Simulation Software

04 August 2021

Analog Device's LTspice XVII is, "a high performance SPICE simulation software, schematic capture and waveform viewer with enhancements and models for easing the simulation of analog circuits." Few years back, I use it to teach undergraduate engineering students to perform analysis and to design electronics circuits. The aim of this post is to encourage my students and future engineers to learn innovative ways to accomplish your work with high quality; yet, a simple open source software. Thanks to Analog Devices!

Assalam o Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Dear Colleagues,

Hope you are fine and best of health.

I am thankful to all colleagues who were involved in making the PEC re-accreditation visit for BE Biomedical program a memorial event. It was a great experience and an excellent learning opportunity due to many obvious reasons. The sincere efforts by all members of the management, faculty, and staff are highly appreciated. The support from the administration was of high quality; everyone contributed with heart and soul, observed professional touch. On behalf of the BME department, I am thankful for the support from higher management, the VC sb, Registrar sb, Dean sb, HU admin; and FEST admin, HIET chairpersons, section heads, staff, laboratory staff, security, housekeeping, and everyone who involved directly or indirectly. A short, brief description of the event follows in the below paragraphs along with a kind appreciation for colleagues' participation.

The PEC team reached the Hamdard University, Madinat al-Hikmah on Thursday 3rd June 2021, and received by the BME chairman and Dr. Faisal Khan. The introduction section was held at the FEST conference room by the Dean FEST, online from Islamabad. After the introduction of participants, the BME chairman presented the salient features of BE Biomedical program as per the PEC OBA manual standards. After the presentation and brief discussion on progress made by the department on earlier findings; the team visited the VC office. Both VC sb and Registrar sb welcomed the team. VC sb briefly presented the progress made by the University in recent times and a roadmap for the future. After the session, the PEC team visited the Bait al-Hikmah library. The chief librarian briefly explained the history of handwritten Quran scripts and surgical instruments designed by the great scholar of our times Hk. Mohammed Said Shaheed sb, the founder chancellor of Hamdard University, and also demonstrated how students access the newly developed library system.

After that, the team interacted with students enrolled in the BE Biomedical program at the FEST building; followed by lunch, prayer, faculty interaction, and laboratories visit. The FEST admin team was very efficient during the whole day. Their service is highly appreciated. The BME team leads Engr. Faris (program coordinator), Engr. Danish (lab coordinator), and Ms. Sadia (PAC, documentation) worked hard with focus to gather the data required/asked by the PEC team at various stages of the visit. The BME team members Engr. Tayyab, Engr. Midhat, Engr. Hina, Engr. Tayyaba, and Engr. Rimsha was supported by the BME team leads to perform/complete various tough tasks during the visit day. I am thankful to Engr. Refreshments and lunch were arranged by the FEST admin and his team, notably Shakeel, Farooq, Farid, Alam, and other members of the FEST admin team. BME laboratories are represented by Mr. Farhan, Mr. Faizan, and Mr. Mehboob. Shared laboratories, thanks to respective Chairpersons and FEST laboratory heads, Mr. Mohsin, Mr. Shahab, Mr. Jahangir, and Mr. Masroor. The HCMD staff in human anatomy and physiology laboratories under the supervision of a medical doctor, thanks to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Furqan, Principal HCMD who always very kind to help BME, whenever required. Staff at Shifa-ul-Mulk hospital for medical imaging laboratory. FEST library is supported by the staff under FEST librarian Ms. Shazia who sent updated library information on time, very appreciated. The valuable input from the IRD staff Mr. Faraz, Mr. Noman, thanks to IRD head Dr. Abbas. The SRD officer Mr. Aziz provided valuable student data timely and whenever BME contacted him, much appreciated. Dean Office staff provided their services at various stages of the visit.

The data collection was very challenging due to many reasons. In this context, on behalf of the department of biomedical engineering; I am thankful to DD Finance Mr. Syed Kamran, CoE Mr. Javaid Ahmed, DD HRM Ms. Urooj Khan, HU system department head Mr. Hayat and his team, notably Mr. Muzammil, Mr. Azim, and others. Dean FEST provided useful data links and guided at various stages of the visit. BME PAC team supported the BME chairman to respond to the PEC team data request. I know, the information in my email message is not well-organized, please accept my apology, if you have read this communication till this point. There is more to read, please do so. Thanks

There are many more names to mention here if I could correctly recall these. BME alumni Engr. Osama, x-faculty, sent us useful information from Canada. Engr. Ramsha, despite her busy schedule and traveling, responded to BME team queries, surprisingly helpful and feel good for the BME team. Members of the industry advisory committee, alumni, employer representatives; who were consented to interact with the PEC team either physically or online. HU transport department, who arranged transport from dental college to pick-and-drop and return for students and IAC committee members. BME students physically visited University and interacted with the PEC team members, despite multiple challenges. Thanks to Prof. Dr. Memon for his guidance and support. Engr. Azhar visited for MPS shared laboratory a day before the visit. Dr. Farah generously provided the support staff for the computing lab.

Presenting a token of appreciation as memory is a hallmark of any event and this PEC visit was not an exception. These gifts are not costly however these weigh high in developing strong future bindings and show commitment towards better outcomes. In this context, I am thankful to Mr. Zeeshan Haider who despite the current lockdown situation, visited the market and prepared excellent quality shields for the PEC team members. Furthermore, VC sb generously awarded Hamdard University's 100th-anniversary shield to the convener of the PEC team, a nice experience. The PEC team departed the Hamdard University around 6 PM. Again, this was a great experience and exceptional learning; due to many reasons including strict lockdown imposed in our province and travel restrictions.

In the end, I am thankful to everyone who was involved in the event.

Thanks and Regards,

Sincerely,

Dr. Tariq Javid
